BMI View: Our core scenario is for a trade deficit of US$5bn in 2009. However, over the medium term this could be mitigated by the onset of oil exports after 2010. Encouragingly, Ghana National Petroleum Corporation's Managing Director Moses Oduro Boateng recently said that initial oil output from the deepwater Tano and West Cape Three Points developments should be almost double previous estimates.
