June 2008 | Macroeconomic ForecastsWith the exception of February 2008, inflation in Sierra Leone consistently runs in the double digits. However, April's CPI growth of 2.7% m-o-m to 13.1% y-o-y was particularly concerning. As a net importer of grain and many other food products, Sierra Leone is particularly vulnerable to elevated global food prices. Food, which makes up 50.1% of the CPI basket, contributed 665 basis points of the overall increase, as prices spike up by 16.8% y-o-y., from 11.9% y-o-y the previous month, a trend we expect to worsen over the coming months.
