Rumours Of Anti-Museveni Manoeuvres

July 2008 | Political Risk Analysis

Local press reports suggest that President Yoweri Mesevni is coming under growing opposition from within the governing National Resistance Party (NRM), with a group of older members - including former ministers - planning a strategy in the hope that he does not get re-elected in 2011 should he follow through with his promise to stand. Any plan has been denied by the alleged organisers, and by their most likely presidential candidate, Internal Affairs Minister Ruhakana Rugunda.
