June experienced renewed armed clashes between Congolese government forces and fighters belonging to the Mai-Mai militia group. According to UN sources, the confrontations took place in the Tshopo province on June 22, reportedly claiming the lives of 29 militants and four government soldiers. As highlighted in our main article, security will remain a particular concern in the eastern parts of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), especially given that the government has only limited military means imposing order over these areas.
