The political scene remains relatively stable, with no further serious unrest since the government lifted fuel subsidies back in February. We would not rule out renewed protests however, and the government is clearly concerned about tackling Jordan's poverty and unemployment problems. We think dissatisfaction with the government will play well for the opposition Islamic Action Front, whose non-political wing the Muslim Brotherhood provides social assistance, and the government will likely seek to avoid this as far as possible through investment and welfare provisions.
