From Breadbasket To Basket Case
June 2008 | Ratings UpdateThe current decade has produced a precipitous decline in both political freedom and economic wealth. This is illustrated by the conclusions of the 2008 'failed state' survey compiled by The Fund For Peace and published in Foreign Policy Magazine. Of the 177 nations ranked, Zimbabwe was placed third from the bottom, behind only Somalia and Sudan, and scored 9 or above (1 being best and 10 worst) in all the individual factors used to decide a country's ranking. This is very much in line with our own risk ratings, and overall it is clear that it will take years of institution rebuilding and economic reconstruction to resurrect Zimbabwe.
