We welcome the recent news that Saudi Arabia and Qatar have agreed to fix their maritime borders, and also set up a high level council intended to address security, trade and political issues, in a move that should provide a further boost for regional stability. Relations between the two have been strained since the Saudis recalled their ambassador from Doha in 2002 over television programmes aired by the Qatar-based Al-Jazeera satellite channel that Riyadh deemed offensive.
