The US recently sent Under Secretary of State William Burns to talks in Geneva between Iran and major world powers in order to receive Iran's response to a recent offer of economic and political incentives aimed at persuading Tehran to halt its nuclear enrichment programme. Officials indicated that the move was designed to demonstrate the West's unity, and further reiterate that Washington's terms of negotiations remain the same, namely that Iran must halt its uranium enrichment programme for further talks to take place.
