July 2008 | Ratings UpdateMembers of the opposition Movement for Democratic Change party on July 18 blocked approval of the sale of a 70% stake in Ghana Telecom to UK-based Vodafone, saying that the government had ignored other companies which may have offered more than the US$900mn on the table. However, there is little to suggest that higher offers would have been forthcoming, given that previous bids had risen to only US$500mn.
