Private Equity Heating Up
July 2008 | Ratings UpdatePrivate equity is burgeoning in Kenya as funds have seized on the opportunities offered by small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs) that are considered too large to be classified micro-enterprises, and too small to attract financing from the commercial banks. Participants include GroFin (launched in mid-05 with a capital base of close to KES5bn), Business Partners International Limited (BPI), Acumen Fund and African Agricultural Capital.
