PM Confident Ahead of Election
July 2008 | Ratings UpdateAngola's Prime Minister Fernando da Piedade Dias dos Santos said in late July that he was confident his party would keep its majority in parliament in the forthcoming elections in September. At the sidelines of a conference in Lisbon, he stated that the ruling Popular Movement for the Liberation of Angola (MPLA) party should achieve a similar or better result than in the last elections held in 1992, when they won 129 of parliament's 200 seats. We concur with this view: our core scenario is for the ruling party to retain its stronghold.
