Hizbullah-Salafi Deal Would Threaten Hariri Party
August 2008 | Political Risk AlertAlthough the memorandum of understanding signed by Hizbullah and a number of Sunni Islamist (or 'Salafi') groups in Lebanon this week appears to have been frozen, the fact that it was struck at all will have caused some sleepless nights over at the pro-Western Future movement. If it were to be resurrected, the deal could further undermine the already weak position of the Future movement, come next year's elections.
