Deportation Policy: Too Drastic?

If confirmed, the reported Kuwaiti decision to deport 800,000 'marginal workers' over the next three year would be yet another indication of the populist bent of domestic policy at the moment. This would amount to around a third of the emirate's foreign workers or 24% of the whole population, which would likely have a far more significant negative economic impact than a positive political one. The expatriates are to be sent home for 'committing crimes, being trouble-makers, importing infectious diseases and being marginal laborers', according to al-Watan newspaper.
