Initial Nuclear Test Results Return Negative
September 2008 | Political Risk AlertInitial tests by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) on the al-Kibar allegedly site bombed by Israel last year have reportedly returned no trace of nuclear material. According to Al-Jazeera, IAEA inspections carried out earlier this year were looking for traces of graphite, a key component in the type of weapons (based on a North Korean prototype) that Syria is accused of attempting to build. A second batch of tests, thought to be capable of picking up smaller traces of material, is now being analysed.
