Guebuza Selected as Candidate For 2009
September 2008 | Ratings UpdateThe Central Committee of the ruling Frente de Libertação de Moçambique (Frelimo) has selected by secret ballot current president and party chair, Armando Guebuza, to be the party's candidate in the 2009 presidential election. Standing unopposed, Guebuza commands great support among both the party leadership and the wider public, having won the presidency in 2004 with 63.7% of the vote. A successful businessman, he has continued the reformist policies of his predecessor, Joaquim Chissano, in order to attract foreign investment.
