September 2008 | Political Risk AnalysisYet, the referral of the dispute over Abyei's boundaries to another international panel, more than three years after the borders were meant to have been agreed upon, does little to inspire confidence that a fully-recognised demarcation will take place in time to organise next year's polls. Moreover, Abyei is not the only border that needs to be agreed upon before July. Also still to be ironed out is the status of the border between the North and South as a whole. Again, the demarcation of the border is important not just for the election, but also for the planned independence
