September 2008 | Political Risk AlertThere was yet another attack on the Lebanese army in Tripoli on September 29, with a car bomb killing three soldiers and injuring dozens more. Officials said they suspected that the attack was aimed at undercutting the army's bid to secure the volatile northern city, which has been rocked by deadly sectarian violence in recent months. There has also been speculation that the military is being targeted in revenge for its crackdown on the Palestinian militant group Fatah al-Islam last year.
