September 2008 | Ratings UpdateNew housing rules recently announced by the Dubai authorities are causing consternation among many foreign workers. Earlier this month, Dubai Municipality announced that the sharing of villas would be outlawed, setting down a 30-day deadline for residents and landlords to comply. Those found to be in violation of the rules could face fines of up to US$13,500. The changes are being brought in to avoid a repeat of the recent fire at a Dubai villa, when 11 foreign labourers died.
