Minorities' Fears To Grow

While reconciliation between Iraq's Sunnis and Shi'as has certainly tentatively progressed over the past 18 months or so in the wake of an improved security situation, recent protests in Baghdad and Mosul by Iraqi Christians highlight that inter-communal suspicions and tensions will likely persist for the foreseeable future. The protests last Sunday (September 28) relate to the dropping of clause 50 from the provincial election law, which guaranteed a set number of seats to minority groups.
