Syrian Deployment A Sign Of Things To Come?
October 2008 | Political Risk AlertSyrian troops have apparently gathered at Lebanon's eastern border, adding to speculation that the country is planning to re-enter its neighbour's territory, after troops were deployed on the northern border on September 22. Reports said the troops had dug trenches and set up checkpoints in the northern Bekaa valley region. Damascus has not commented on the most recent troop movement, and attributed the September 22 deployment to an anti-smuggling campaign.
