October 2008 | Ratings UpdateCongolese Prime Minister Antoine Gizenga announced his resignation on September 25, stating that his old age prevented him from performing his state duties properly. While creating uncertainty over who will lead the cabinet, Gizenga's resignation was welcomed by opposition leaders, as well as several members of the government. Since taking office in 2006, critics have highlighted Gizenga's inability to address the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC)'s developmental and security challenges. While the appointment of a new prime minister will bring fresh momentum into the decision-making process, the government's relatively limited control over the country outside of the capital will remain
