According to local news reports, three Algerian men currently facing trial in the southern province of Ouargla have admitted to planning attacks on oil and gas pipelines. The pipeline in question is the 170km link between Hassi Messaoud and Touggourt in the Sahara region. The men have also confessed to plotting to abduct foreign expatriates working for oil and gas companies in the south of Algeria. For now, these reports remain unconfirmed by the government or the security apparatus. If true, the fact that their attack was pre-empted by security forces is an encouraging sign, but it will nonetheless cause
