October 2008 | Ratings UpdateAfter hearing final submissions from the council of losing presidential candidate and former military leader of Nigeria, Muhammedu Buhari, the Supreme Court announced on October 23 that it would defer a ruling on the validity of Nigerian President Umaru Yar'Adua's election in 2007. An electoral tribunal ruled in favour of the president earlier in the year, but Buhari and another challenger, former vice-president Atiku Abubakar, have appealed the decision to the Supreme Court.
