Turning Attentions To Kabul?

As well as its role as an OPEC dove, counterweight to the Iranian influence and potential mediator in the Palestinian conflict, Saudi Arabia could also score some points with the US if its inter-Afghan peace talks pay off. The first talks between the Afghan government and the Taliban have been sponsored and hosted by Saudi Arabia. Although the first round was attended by Wakil Ahmad Mutawakkil, a captured former foreign minister of the Taliban, who is associated with but does not speak for it, there was official Taliban representation at a second meeting in October.
