A New Focus On Defence
October 2008 | Ratings UpdateOn October 26, one month after the resignation of former Congolese Prime Minister Antoine Gizenga, President Joseph Kabila inaugurated a new government. While keeping key ministries such as Mines and Finances unchanged, Kabila dismissed Defence Minister Chikez Diemu and appointed Charles Mwando Simba as his successor. At the same time, Kabila approved the establishment of the new government post of Deputy Prime Minister of Defence and Security, which will be filled by Mutombo Bakafua Nsenda. In our view, the strengthening of the government's defence portfolios is a direct response to the growing instability in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC)
