Amnesty Report Keeps Pressure On Amman
October 2008 | Political Risk AlertThe October 30 report by Amnesty International, which detailed widespread abuse of female migrant domestic workers in Jordan, is an attempt to pressurise the government into doing more to protect the rights of the group. Indeed, the timing is likely no coincidence. When the Jordanian parliament in Amman amended the Labour Law in July 2008, it stipulated that a separate regulation would be issued to define the terms of employment for migrant domestic workers, including their working hours and rest periods.
