Fatah al-Islam: Still Going Strong?
November 2008 | Political Risk AlertThe Palestinian Sunni Islamist group Fatah al-Islam continues to make the headlines, in spite of the army's apparently decisive campaign against it in 2007, most recently with the Syrian accusation that it was behind the September bombing that killed 17 people in Damascus. Now, the Lebanese authorities say they have arrested six members of the group - on top of the twelve the Syrians say they have - for involvement in 'terrorist acts'. The group has denied responsibility for the Damascus attacks, and says the 12 detainees in Syria are not Fatah al-Islam members.
