Abduction Emphasises Sinai Instability
November 2008 | Political Risk AlertThe swift release of the 25 Egyptian police officers captured by Bedouin kidnappers in the Sinai peninsula will limit the damage of the incident, but it adds to a generalised view of instability in the area. Tribesmen in a number of trucks stopped a police vehicle, forced the officers out and taken them to an undisclosed location, but they were released a few hours later. The area, home to Egypt's Red Sea tourist resorts, has something of a reputation for militancy and instability, which could be damaging to the tourism industry. As well as its proximity with the Gaza Strip
