Morocco already has a peacekeeping presence in Cote d’Ivoire, and further missions are to be expected in the future, although the king has ruled out a deployment in Iraq. Importantly, the Haiti mission should strengthen links with Spain, as forces from the two countries will form a joint stabilisation force under Spanish command in the Caribbean island. Relations with Spain have improved since the Madrid government changed earlier this year, but some friction remains, as intelligence officials from the two countries have expressed considerable differences
