After turning out a sizeable fiscal surplus in FY2008-09 (of a forecast 12.5% of GDP), the government budget is set to flip into deficit in FY2009-10 (beginning April 1 2009). We forecast a shortfall of QAR6.6bn (or 2.5% of GDP) for the fiscal year. The budget will return to surplus the following year.
