Worst Floods In 40 Years

Namibia is experiencing the worst floods in 40 years, as unusually heavy and long-lasting seasonal rains cause water levels in the Zambezi river and other smaller rivers to overflow in the northeast. The official death toll stands at 92 at the time of writing, but is expected to rise. An estimated 400,000 people on both sides of the border with Angola have been affected and the government has declared a state of emergency in the affected areas. Animal attacks are on the rise, but the more pressing danger in our view is the risks posed by disease and food shortages.
