A series of attacks by the Democratic Forces for the Liberation of Rwanda (FDLR) in the villages of Luofu, Kirumba, Kanyabonga and Kayna have forced more than 100,000 Congolese civilians to flee over the course of April. Humanitarian agencies are unable to provide food and other essential items due to random attacks. Although large-scale fighting between rebel groups and government forces has stopped over the past few months in the Kivu provinces, ongoing activity by the FDLR clearly highlights that security on the ground will remain extremely fragile in the eastern parts of the country.
