Cabinda Concerns

New York-based Human Rights Watch (HRW) commented in a report published in June, that the Angolan government should end the unlawful detention and torture of people suspected of rebel activities in the oil-producing Cabinda enclave. The province, which is separated from mainland Angola by a narrow strip of land, produces 60% of the country's oil. Rebels there have waged a separatist campaign for several decades. HRW's report claims that between September 2007 and March 2009, over 38 people were arbitrarily arrested.
