Challenge To President's VP Choice
June 2009 | Ratings UpdatePresident Ian Khama has already indicated that he intends to replace current Vice President Mompati Merafhe after the elections scheduled for October 2009 with the president's ally and cousin, Minister of Defence, Ndelu Seretse. Local media reports, however, have suggested that a rival Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) faction is running a campaign led by Member of Parliament for Tati East, Simon Guma Moyo, and the ruling party National Treasurer, Satar Dada to have the post filled by Minister of Minerals, Ponatshego Kedikilwe, in a bid to check the president's power to groom a successor.
