The Gabonese Electoral Commission announced on July 15 that the presidential elections will be held on August 30. The campaigning will officially start two weeks before the polls and will end on the eve of the election day. While the opposition agreed to the date, several parties complained that the time schedule for the voter registration process - the deadline ended on July 21 - was too short. Although the government provided a limited extension, we believe that the issue could increase the risk of opposition protests, or even a possible boycott of the polls by selected parties.
