August 2009 | Ratings UpdateCameroon's government has declared that the country is facing a maize shortage in 2009 owing to corruption in its agriculture ministry. According to a government anti-corruption commission report, agriculture ministry officials have misappropriated around XAF2bn (US$4.3mn), which was meant to be used for raising maize production, through fake farmer groups. The corruption has meant that the country is on the verge of a food crisis.
