Mozambique's Constitutional Council (CC) came under intense criticism after it rejected six of the nine candidates for the presidential election scheduled for October 28. The CC reported various irregularities with the candidates' applications, claiming in many instances that insufficient signatures were collected. However, the council was criticised for not having dealt with all parties fairly, and was accused of not giving the excluded candidates an opportunity to rectify the supposed shortcomings of their applications.
