Experiencing both a recovery in copper prices and early-year collapse in imports, Zambia should be able to eke out a trade surplus of US$46mn, up slightly on 2008. The current account, however, is likely to extend its deficit to around US$1.2bn in 2009 (8.7% of GDP), and remain under pressure in subsequent years.
