The former head of Algeria's state phone company, Algerie Telecom, has been sentenced to five years in jail for his part in a multi-million dollar fraud case. The firm is thought to have been cheated out of more than US$23bn by the fraud, which also involved a private company, contracted to provide Algerie Telecom with cable.
