October 2009 | Risk SummaryCameroon's Minister-Delegate for Agriculture Clementine Ananga Messina, has announced that the country expects to double its annual cocoa output from around 200,000 tonnes in the medium term by providing support to cocoa farmers. The minister added that the government plans to invest XAF5bn (US$11mn) each year to revive the cocoa sector. The National Cocoa and Coffee Board anticipates a further 9% y-o-y growth in cocoa output in the forthcoming 2009/10 season, compared with 210,000 tonnes recorded in 2008/09. The news is promising the current account component of our short- and long-term economic risk ratings.
