Opposition Parties Allege Unfair Media Coverage
November 2009 | Ratings UpdateAccording to local press sources citing politicians from opposition parties, the Namibian Broadcasting Corporation (NBC) has been unfair in its radio and television coverage of the elections. This impression is reinforced by figures from the Institute for Public Policy Research (IPPR), which show that the ruling party's share of NBC political news coverage has been steady at around 82%.The IPPR report claimed that SWAPO's dominance was strongest in television news, and expressed concern that the NBC could be in breach of the Southern African Development Community's (SADC) principles on democratic elections.
