November 2009 | Risk SummaryLibya has agreed to cooperate more closely with the UN Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) on issues such as organised crime, money laundering and human trafficking. Under the agreement, the UNODC is to set up an office in Tripoli that will provide technical support to the Libyan authorities. Illegal immigration has been a sticking point in relations between Libya and the West, although Libyan authorities claim to have cut illegal immigration to Italy by around 90% in 2009, and to have dismantled and detained gangs of people smugglers.
