November 2009 | Risk SummaryThe UAE has risen five places to 30th in Transparency International's annual Corruption Perceptions Index. It remains behind Qatar, regarded as the least corrupt country in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region, but is well ahead of Saudi Arabia (63rd place). Corruption has been high on the UAE political agenda recently, and in September 2009, Sheikh Mohammed of Dubai set up a special task force to investigate claims of graft within the emirate. Executives from several banking and finance groups have already been detained as part of ongoing investigations.
