January 2010 | Ratings UpdateTwo new government programmes are set to enhance access to financing for small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in Morocco, with the goal of improving their competitiveness. The first, Imtiaz, will grant assistance worth up to 20% of companies' assets, up to a maximum of MAD5mn (US$0.6mn), for the realisation of their expansion plans. The second, Moussanada, will set up operational support programmes for businesses in order to help them modernise. Against the backdrop of an urban unemployment rate of 14.8% in Q309, these initiatives could help to spur job creation and consequently improve social stability.
