In line with unanimously held expectations, the ruling SWAPO party scored landslide victory in the November 2009 presidential and parliamentary elections. Although three African observer missions declared the poll to be peaceful, transparent and fair, local observers and opposition parties criticised the delay in releasing results, in addition to some alleged counting irregularities.
