In January, Yossi Peled, a reserve army general and minister without portfolio in the Israeli cabinet, stated that he believed a repeat of the 2006 war with Hizbullah was likely. In widely reported comments, Peled stated that: 'it is almost clear to me that it is a matter of time before there is a military clash in the north.'
