The former prime minister of Sudan has announced that he will contest the country's forthcoming presidential election scheduled for April 11, 2010. Sadeq-al-Mahdi, the head of the opposition Umma party, was the last elected leader of the country before being removed from power in a coup led by current President Omar Hassan-al-Bashir in 1989.
