Fuel Prices On The Rise

In a televised announcement on Radiotélévision nationale congolaise (RTNC), the government confirmed that petrol prices would be raised across the country. The latest adjustment would see the price for one litre of fuel jump from CDF970.0 to CDF895.0 - an increase of just under 8.4%. Secretary General of the Economy Boniface Mawatadi attributed the move to the ongoing depreciation of the Congolese franc, which has lost around 27% of its value against the US dollar since January 2009.
