Renamo Boycott Slowly Ending

Opposition party Renamo had called for a boycott for the elected Renamo members, after the party refused to accept the result of the Presidential and Parliamentary elections that were held on October 27 2009. On January 5, only nine of the 83 elected Renamo members took their seats, but by January 19 this number had risen to 19. It is still uncertain whether Renamo leader Afonso Dhlakama, has authorised the end of the boycott, but this shows the fractures within Renamo.
