Power-Sharing Hopes Fading Away

BMI View: President Andry Rajoelina's apparent unwillingness to negotiate with the opposition on a power-sharing agreement bodes ill for Madagascar's political environment. Parliamentary elections scheduled for March 2010 could prove a flashpoint for civil unrest, if they go ahead.
